Why ABS is BAD for WHEELIES and STOPPIES
I frequently get asked to explain why I always turn ABS off when I wheelie, so in this video I explain why, as well as the effects of ABS on stoppies, and how traction control effects wheelies, which people typically assume is what I meant to say when I'm talking about ABS.

I will definitely disable abs when my wheelies get higher. Thanks for pointing it out. Kawasaki did service today so I mentioned the very interesting how the bike and wheel will be locked to eachother when braking in a wheelie even though the rubber isn’t sliding. One of the mechanics replied that abs turns off as soon as it detects front wheel not rotating normally due to being in the air.
Just FYI some newer bikes you can just flip ABS off with the handlebar controls

@@512460 it’s not too far back. The thumbnail is the red bmw in a wheelie. I forgot the title but I think it was one of the only videos with that bmw as the thumbnail and all the surrounding videos were other bikes

Any tips on scraping ?
Just have to start a dip and force yourself to wait to brake until it dips a little farther and farther each time. Try to set it down gentle with just a little bit of brake, and come in with speed. If you got for a scrape too slow, you’ll probably tip over. Chase a little bit then dip and let engine brake do most of the gentle fall back, with just a little brake

thinking of getting one, should i get the bars? is it fine to just run stock clip ons? looking to just get good enough on this bike to do it on every other bike, like drop backs and stuff
Stock clip ons are fine too, I wheelied mine stock for a while

Where do you live? Is there a good stunt scene there? Been stunting for a long time but the scene sucks where I am
Fort Worth and its mid. Better than some places but Dallas is popping more. But Dallas and Fort Worth both kinda cracking down on bikes now. I see police helicopters out several times a week now. Never used to see them until the last few months. Houston is probably better for the scene

I put the 35 buck fake rizomas on mine and they are great tbh.... theres several shitty fakes but 35 compares to 500 and my bike next to the real ones and you cant really tell and they look amazing

Do you have your idle set higher or stock? I’ve got foot drag down but as soon as I pick my foot up I lose it :/
Idle on all my bikes is stock unless I do circle wheelies on the R7. The grom doesn’t have an idle adjuster
Great video. Grom rules. I make short below 1 foot wheelies on my Z900. All got more manageable when I went back to 1st gear clutch ups. But the more the bike comes up, the more difficult for me to handle foot brake with force. In a knee knocker I would fall off backwards 😂 I try to learn to anchor myself to the bike/tank with my knees.

Nice ,but this is way above my pay grade. I’d be too scared not to have my left leg as a safety, plus I can’t circle yet. So yeah. ha
It’s still pretty scary for me. If I fall too much left I’m definitely just fully falling to the ground lol. But for the most part I’m more likely to high side out of it to the right than to fall too far left

What causes this? Just happened to me but it went from left to right and I couldn’t save it. Looped the shit outta it 😂
Not properly balanced.
Mechanical oscillation to put is simple wheel going to fall and it over corrects the only thing you do is just go before balance point and then back on the gas but pretty much just not properly balanced

I forgot to ask last time you explained ABS: What happens if you do stoppie with ABS on?
Your bike just comes to a stop, it won’t lift up
@@jar7d But isn't that traction control? So the bike won't lift in a stoppie if I turn off traction control but keep ABS on? (I must pull a fuse to disable ABS on Z900)
@@NN-fz6eh yes because abs prevents the brakes from locking. The only way to lift the rear tire is to basically lock the brakes for a second, but instead of sliding your front tire the bike is basically connecting itself to the front tire as it rotates forward and lifts. If abs prevents it from locking it can’t lift. But I don’t know if traction control being on would affect stoppies or not. I’ve always just had both disabled. I think traction control would only really effect your ability to pop a wheelie up
@@jar7d Thanks for explaining. This is more complicated than I knew. I often ride my bike to some roads without traffic. I like to have ABS on then. Maybe I can draw some cable from the fuse to a switch on the handlebar.
@@jar7d Do you flash the CDI-card or ECU? How does that improve stunting? I have seen ZX-6R wheelie in "Road mode" it must have been flashed I believe.
